2 1994: The Beginning of a Beautiful
Friendship As the New Year began, Stefano and Peter
read the contents of the therapist’s file on Sami and were disappointed
that Sami had not admitted the cause of her bulimia to her therapist. They
were sure that Sami knew something which they could use to hurt John, Roman,
and Marlena, so they decided to steal Sami’s diary instead. Sami
herself spent the day with her grandparents, who attempted to assure her that
they still loved her despite the scare she gave them over Belle, and that all
they wanted is for Sami to return to good health. Carrie started her new job at Titan, and
spent her day with Lucas. He asked her to dinner but declined because she had
made plans with Austin. Austin called Brandee and asked her to tell Carrie
the truth-- that they never had a relationship. Just as Brandee was about to
do as Austin asked, Lucas, who had been spying on the group, called her on
her cell phone and ordered her not to tell Carrie the truth. However,
Victor’s secretary Marie arrived with orders to fire Brandee. An
infuriated Brandee explained Lucas’ scheme to Austin and Carrie. Austin
and Lucas immediately began to throw punches and were pulled off of one
another. Lucas then tried to explain his position to Carrie, who slapped him.
A few days later, though, as Austin and Carrie ice skated in the park, Lucas
again apologized to Carrie, who agreed to forgive but not forget and herself
apologized for slapping Lucas. Austin was annoyed. Peter visited Jennifer at her television
show and then stole Sami’s diary and delivered it to Stefano. They read
the diary and were delighted to learn that John had fathered Belle; neither
one of them wanted Peter’s sister Kristen (who was engaged to
Stefano’s son Tony) to become more seriously involved with John. Meanwhile, Marlena informed Sami that she
was going to tell Roman about her affair with John. Sami warned her not to do
so but Marlena was insistent that honesty is the best policy. Several days later, Jennifer found Lucas
moping in the park and encouraged him to find a way to move on without
Carrie. He broke off his conversation with the woman he did not yet know was
his half-sister when Sami and Roman arrived to ice skate after one of
Sami’s therapy appointments. Lucas asked Sami, who did not like him
because of his attempts to hurt her beloved sister Carrie, to be his friend again.
Sami told Lucas that she knew he was up to something but that she would be
his friend. Lucas went home to find Victor waiting for
him. Bo was deep into the investigation of the murder of Curtis, and both
Victor and Lucas suspected the other of knowing more than he said. Lucas did
promise that he had been nowhere near the murder site, and he also tried to
reassure his mother that her arch-enemy Vivian could not have escaped the
Pinehaven Mental Institution, which had recently burned down. Unfortunately
for Kate, Vivian had not only escaped but had rescued another of Kate’s
old enemies, Laura Horton, who seemed to know something about Kate’s
relationship with Curtis. After leaving the park and Lucas, Sami
went back to the Pub where her grandparents reiterated their vow to help her
overcome her emotional problems. Roman suggested a family photograph and even
asked John to be in it, which greatly distressed Sami, especially when Roman
asked John to hold Belle. John whispered to Sami that if she wanted to keep
the secret, as he did, then she had to pretend to like him. It was a splendid
display of John Black's ineptitude as a parent. Back at the hospital, Sami happened to run
into Stefano and Peter. She recognized Stefano and was naturally afraid, but
he pretended that he did not know her and she reluctantly allowed him to read
her palm. He told her that she was in love with a man whose initials were
"AR" and that she had a secret. She refused to tell him the secret,
but Stefano and Peter have already arranged a blood test for Belle. Sami
heard about it along with Roman and panicked. She found Jamie and explained
the situation; Jamie told her to stay away from Stefano. Sami then informed
John and Marlena that they should not tell Roman the truth as he would be
destroyed and John agreed. Belle’s blood samples were quickly stolen by
Stefano, although Jamie accused Sami of the crime. At the Kiriakis Mansion, Bo, who had just
learned of Lucas’ speeding ticket, interrogated Lucas over the phone.
Lucas told Bo he had gone to see Carrie and then changed his mind. When Bo
left, Lucas burned a pair of gloves in the fireplace. Victor asked Lucas why
Bo had interrogated him and after Lucas told him, he asked Lucas if anything
else tied Lucas to Curtis. Lucas assured him that there was nothing. However,
when Bo arrived he saw the gloves and further questioned Lucas. Lucas told
him that he had only shown Carrie a photo of a visiting teacher from the
military academy and had no connections to Curtis. Victor tried to convince
Bo that Lucas had had nothing to do with the murder, and Kate became
frightened that Lucas had been involved. When Bo left, she asked Lucas why
he’d gone out that night. Lucas wanted to know what she knew that made
her feel she had to worry that he’d seen something. Neither truly
answered the other and Victor promised to protect them both. Victor was
however upset that the murder investigation was causing a rift between
himself and his (illegitimate) son Bo. He then told Kate and Lucas that he
had gone looking for Curtis; and Kate admitted that she had been beaten by
Curtis and had tried to pay him off. On the day of Belle’s baptism, Peter
pulled Marlena aside and told her that Stefano knew about her affair.
Marlena, who along with John had just promised Sami that Roman would never
know, was distressed. When she saw Stefano sneak into the church midway
through the ceremony and in her desire to tell Roman the truth before Stefano
did blurted out her secret before the entire congregation. Sami told Marlena
that she should have kept her mouth shut and Roman became even angrier with
Marlena when he realized that this secret was the cause of Sami’s
problems. He screamed at Marlena that she was selfish to allow her daughter
to suffer. John, who was to have been Belle’s godfather, stood up for
Marlena by admitting that he was the other man, and John and Roman came to
blows. Later, Sami sat alone in a corner of the Brady Pub while the rest of
her family glared at John. He begged them to forgive Marlena even if they
could not forgive him. Lucas, Kate, and Victor continued to tell
Bo that they knew nothing about the murder, even after he found a one-hundred
dollar bill that could be traced to Titan. Kate and Lucas gave him
semi-conflicting stories about a business deal and taking money from the
safe. John again tried to apologize to Roman and
Sami was forced to pull the men off of one another. Roman then told Sami that
he was getting a divorce but that he would get custody of Sami and Belle. Kate, concerned over Lucas’ possible
role in the murder, told him that he should take his friend Alan Harris up on
his offer to go skiing. Carrie, who had just broken up with Austin and told
Sami who told Lucas, would be at the Green Mountain Lodge as well. Carrie was
attacked by a masked man at the Lodge, and Austin, who was begging her
forgiveness, believed that the man was Lucas. Austin found Lucas and hit him.
Carrie refused to tell the police about the attack and attempted rape;
however, she later confided in her sister Sami. Sami had been busily destroying her diary
and with it the proof that Belle had been fathered by John while Lucas,
Austin, and Carrie were skiing. Marlena watched and apologized to Sami for
the affair. Unfortunately, Stefano had copied the diary and told Roman the
truth. When Roman confronted Sami, she lied badly and they both went to tell
Marlena that they hated her and Belle. Marlena moved out. Lucas told Alan about Carrie’s
attack after Sami told her family and it became common knowledge. Alan was
the attacker, but he did not tell Lucas. Lucas and Alan went to Johnny
Angel’s and found a depressed Sami mourning her parents’
marriage. Lucas wanted to cheer Sami up, so Alan told Sami that she looked
like Carrie while thinking to himself that he could get close to Carrie by getting
close to Sami. Lucas then returned his attention to the
murder trial. Bo had been unable to find a more likely suspect than Billie.
On the witness stand, Kate talked about how she had been married to Curtis
and he had stolen her babies. Austin and Billie realized that Kate was their
mother-- and Lucas their half-brother. Kate meanwhile cried on Lucas’
shoulder that Victor might now regret marrying her. Lucas reminded her that
Victor knew much of the dirt on Kate prior to the marriage. This scene was taken
in by Laura Horton, who had been presumed dead but who with Vivian’s
help crashed the trial with information about Kate and Curtis. She asked
Alice to point out Kate’s son and when Alice saw Laura’s stare,
she admitted that there was indeed something familiar about Lucas. Laura then
went to speak to Lucas, telling him he did not look like his mother.
"No," replied the typically snide Lucas. "Apparently, I look
like my father!" Alan began to date Sami, who did not tell
her parents because they were busy with their own lives and because she knew
they would not approve. Before each date, Sami’s best friend Jamie
warned her to be careful and not to dress so provocatively. Sami was excited,
though, that "A college boy asked me out! A cute college boy!" When
Carrie overheard Sami telling Jamie that she hoped Alan would kiss her soon,
Carrie told Sami to stop dating Alan as she was in over her head. Sami
refused, and Carrie considered telling their father but after noting the pain
he was in over the divorce decided not to. Carrie did tell Marlena, who broke
up a date just as Alan kissed Sami on the cheek. She told Sami not to date
anyone over eighteen. Sami, who had lost all respect for her mother, told her
"you have no right to tell me what I can and cannot do!" Roman
arrived and told Marlena to leave and Sami was delighted that her father was
once again going to undercut her mother’s authority. But Marlena
refused to leave and Roman agreed that Alan was much too old for Sami. Sami
asked Marlena why she always ruined everything and telephoned Alan to say
that they could still date. She then told Carrie to stay out of her life. Bo discovered that Kate once attacked
Curtis with a butcher knife (in self defense) and Kate, not Billie, became
the prime suspect. Lucas, who protected his mother at all costs, stood up in
court and yelled "I did it ! I killed Curtis Brown!" He used
Carrie’s and Bo’s knowledge of his speeding ticket to provide
evidence against himself and was taken to the police station. Alan used the
opportunity to persuade Carrie that Lucas was the one who attacked her. At the police station, Victor asked Lucas
for the truth and Lucas told him that all he wanted was for his mother to
have happiness with Victor. Victor told Lucas that Kate could never be happy
without her son. Victor then ordered Lucas not to sign a confession but Lucas
signed it anyway. Sami continued to date Alan as Carrie
worried over her sister. Sami blew Carrie off and forced Jamie to say that
she would be with Jamie when she was actually with Alan. Sami kissed Alan,
who told her he had promised himself to take it slow with Carrie’s
sister, and Sami was mad that everything always came back to Carrie. So Alan
whispered to himself that if he couldn’t have Carrie, he would have her
sister. The next day in the park he told Sami to get a fake ID so they could
go to frat parties together. Carrie interrupted this conversation and
reminded them that they were not allowed to see each other; Alan assured her
they were just talking and Sami went to visit Jamie. Laura found Kate to rub her nose in
Lucas’ impending conviction. She then recited the whole story to Kate--
that Lucas was the result of her husband Bill’s extramarital affair.
Laura planned to embarrass Kate and Lucas with this information but Kate
reminded Laura that she did not want to hurt Jennifer, her daughter with Bill
who was not so much older than Lucas. Laura later let Bill know that she knew
about Lucas’ paternity. All were present at Lucas’ trial and
he was about to be sentenced when Billie broke through her traumatic amnesia
and told everyone that neither she nor Lucas nor Kate was the killer. Lucas
admitted that he had only confessed because he believed his mother was
guilty. Kate, Lucas, and Victor had a happy reunion, but Lucas put a crimp in
it by telling Kate that one of the things he would have regretted had he gone
to prison was never knowing who his father was. Kate reiterated that she
would never tell; Lucas had been fine without him for eighteen years. When Kate
and Victor were busy with Titan business, Lucas went through Kate’s
records and found a letter addressed to the house where Bill, Laura,
Jennifer, and Abby lived. He interrogated them, especially Bill, about
previous occupants of the house until Kate arrived to tell Lucas to stop
digging into his past. Lucas was further distracted when Alan
tried to get him to break up Austin and Carrie, and Carrie tried to convince
Lucas that Austin and Billie were his siblings. Lucas refused to help Alan
and refused to believe Carrie; he simply repeated his all-time most over-used
line "I have to protect Mom from Austin and Billie." He was sure
that they were only after Kate’s money, and in any case he did not want
to share Kate. He then gave in to Alan’s plans to have revenge on
Austin. Sami, meanwhile, obtained a fake ID and
bought new clothes for the fraternity party. Jamie again told her that she
was wearing clothes not appropriate to their age but Sami did not care. Sami
then overheard Carrie making a date with Alan and was angered that Alan liked
Carrie better than her. Alan promised that he only accepted Carrie’s
invitation so it would not look suspicious. He then called a therapist and
talked about how he was afraid that he was mentally unstable and obsessed with
a girl. Alan rigged Austin’s car so it would break, leaving Carrie
unprotected, and made sure Sami got drunk at the frat party so she would not
know when he left. Austin and Carrie managed to get a ride to the Lodge, so
Alan decided he would have Sami instead. Sami, though, had shaken off the
alcohol and noticed Alan’s absence; he convinced her that he had not
really left, but the Salem PD broke up the party. Alan visited a hung-over
Sami at school the next day and told her their next date would be just the
two of them-- maybe she could make dinner at his apartment? Kate attempted to bond with Austin by
letting him work at Titan and Lucas told Kate that she had to choose between
him and Austin/Billie. He then went to Bill to ask for more information on
his mother’s past; he knew Bill had been her doctor. Bill lied to Lucas
and then decided that he could not continue to lie to his own son and chased
him down the street, only to be stopped by Laura. Laura later agreed that
Bill should tell Lucas the truth, but when Vivian made sure she saw Bill
comforting Kate at a party that night, Laura decided to embarrass both Bill
and Kate. She told everyone about Bill’s affair and how it had caused
the mental break that put her in an institution for eighteen years. Vivian
also arranged for it to be announced that Curtis and Kate had never divorced
and Victor’s marriage to Kate was invalid. Jennifer was disgusted with
her father for not telling her about her brother and for his role in her
growing up without a mother. Bill’s brother Mickey also screamed at
Bill for breaking up his own marriage to Laura if he was only going to hurt
her; Mickey only backed off when Alice ordered him to do so. For his part,
Lucas would not even speak to Bill and yelled at Kate for keeping the truth
from him. Victor also yelled at Kate and said he would not come home that
night. Lucas later went to Bill’s house to
ask him how he could fail to acknowledge him as a son. Bill explained that he
knew everything about Lucas-- his grades, his friends, his achievements at
the military school. Lucas did not accept this explanation and left, snapping
at his new sister Jennifer on his way out. Jennifer reminded Lucas that his
life was not the only one that had changed that night , and took her turn
screaming at her father. Bill decided that neither Lucas nor Laura would ever
forgive him and soon left for Somalia. Although his personal life was in turmoil,
Lucas continued to do well professionally. Kate promised that Countess
Wilhelmina would one day be his. Billie had just re-arranged Lucas’
Countess Wilhelmina display at the mall to make it sell better, and Lucas
extracted a promise from his mother that Billie would never work for Countess
Wilhelmina again. Kate agreed, and sealed the deal by allowing Lucas to call
Billie a tramp in her presence. Lucas also had his usual argument with Austin
before Billie went out for a night with Bo. Bo and Billie needed to borrow a CD from
Sami and that nearly interrupted her date with Alan. She had made him dinner
at her home since Roman was at a police conference. Alan ran out the back
door when Bo arrived and Sami was able to pretend that she had been spending
the night with Jamie. Billie had been attempting to get Jamie to admit that
her father had molested her, and Jamie finally told the truth to Bo and Sami.
Sami promised to support her friend and later told Alan that she felt guilty
for acting like her life was awful when Jamie had been going through that
kind of trauma all alone. Tony DiMera owned 49% of Countess
Wilhelmina’s stock and gave Billie a job, and Lucas was angered. Carrie
threatened to resign if Kate tried to veto Tony’s plans for Billie, and
Lucas was further upset when he could not change Carrie’s mind because
she was so attached to Austin and Billie. On another date with Alan, Sami studied at
his apartment and he was about to rape her when she decided to go home early
to have dinner with Carrie and Roman. Roman told his daughters that his
divorce from Marlena would soon be final. Alan stalked some other women in
the streets and continued to worry that he was mentally unbalanced. Oblivious to Alan’s problems, Sami
went over to his apartment again, this time to cook him dinner. He cajoled
her into posing for seductive photographs, and then he raped her. When she
accused him of raping her, he told her that she wanted it and reminded her
that the photos proved it. He informed her that no one would believe her if
she claimed that she had been raped, and she left the apartment in tears. At
home, she took a long shower and barely noticed that her father was leaving
to go to Maison Blanche, where Marlena and John were being held captive.
Roman also noticed nothing odd about his daughter’s demeanor. For the
next several days, Sami repeatedly ran into Alan and they repeatedly argued
about whether or not he had raped her. Sami suffered flashbacks and
nightmares about the rape, and even called the rape crisis hotline. Her
trauma worsened when she learned the truth about Marlena and John’s
whereabouts. Lucas’ new half-brother Mike arrived
in Salem and tried to help Lucas get over Carrie. They went to a disco and
saw Carrie and Austin together, and Lucas became upset. At a police
fundraiser, he donated $10,000 to impress Carrie, and he swore to Alan that
Carrie would come back to work for him and forget about Austin. He also began
to notice that Alan and Sami were both behaving strangely. Sami demanded that Alan get an AIDS test,
but she herself tested negative for AIDS. Her relief was short-lived when the
doctor told her that she should also have a pregnancy test, but that, too,
was negative. She nearly told Roman about the rape when he returned but Alan
talked her out of it. Alan then spent some time with Lucas, who went through
his friend’s wallet and found the suggestive pictures of Sami. Lucas
cornered Sami and asked her what had happened. She admitted that she had been
raped and told Lucas the whole story. That evening, Roman told Sami that he
was leaving town; Maison Blanche had convinced him that he could not keep
living near Marlena and John. Lucas told Sami that her father would not leave
is she told him what had happened, but she refused. In over his head, Lucas
called Carrie for help and they ran to the airport to tell Roman what had
happened. Roman left without finding out, however, so Lucas and Carrie
attempted to get Sami into counseling. Sami refused that as well, so Lucas
and Carrie decided to get Alan’s confession on tape, using Carrie as
the bait. The two broke into Alan’s apartment to steal the
incriminating photos of Sami, but found only the mask Alan wore when he
attacked Carrie and a shrine to Carrie that he built. On the day Carrie and Lucas wanted to trap
Alan, the power went out and Alan cancelled his date with Carrie. Lucas took
off for Titan, where the blackout had trapped Kate and Vivian in an elevator.
Knowing that Kate was very claustrophobic, Lucas drafted Austin into helping
him manually pull up the elevator to save their mother. Back in
Carrie’s apartment, Alan arrived after all, as a surprise. A frightened
Carrie repeatedly called Lucas from her bathroom, but he did not get her
messages before Alan held a knife to her throat and dragged her to his
apartment. She left a tape-recorded message and dropped an earring so Lucas
and Austin would be able to track her. Alan tied Carrie in his apartment and she
told him that she wanted him to make love to her so he would untie her. She
then managed to turn her wire on and Austin and Lucas heard the conversation.
She did not get a chance to say where she was being held even the next
morning, when a newly arrived Marlena found out what was happening. Lucas
then told Sami of the plan. Sami recognized a noise on the wire as being
unique to Alan’s building and ran to save her sister, telling only
Jamie where she was going. Her attempt at heroism resulted in her being tied
up as well. Alan left Sami and Carrie so he could
steal a car and take them away. Austin and Lucas saw Alan try to steal the
car; meanwhile, Jamie told Abe and the rest of the police department what
Sami was doing. When Alan returned, Sami and Carrie knocked him out but he
regained consciousness while Sami searched for the key that would let the two
out of the apartment . . . just in time for Austin and Lucas to realize where
Sami and Carrie were and arrive to save the day. Alan was let out on bail for kidnapping
and assault, but Sami did not want to press rape charges. When she saw that
he would otherwise go free, and with some prompting from Carrie, she changed
her mind. Marlena overheard Sami pressing rape charges and attempted to
comfort her daughter but Sami was too angry with Marlena to accept her. Alan,
of course, called Sami a liar. He once again got out on bail and found Sami
at the health club. He told her that the whole town would know what a tramp
she was if the case went to trial. He again found her in the park and taunted
her until Austin came along to beat him up and save Sami. Lucas still resented and feared Austin and
Billie. He told Vivian of his problems, prompting her to brand him
"Hamlet." Kate decided not to go on maternity leave after all
because she wanted to help Lucas develop a good working relationship with his
siblings. Lucas was more inclined to listen to Vivian than to his mother, and
Billie ended up watching as Gina/Hope and Bo did a photo shoot together,
although thanks to Lucas Bo believed he was doing it as a favor to Billie. At Alan’s preliminary hearing, he
taunted Elaine, another woman whom he had raped. Elaine was frightened and
when she took the stand she swore Alan had not raped her. Sami still could
not deal with Marlena’s presence, so Carrie comforted her. Rape charges
were soon dismissed, and the next day when Sami and Carrie went shopping in
Salem Place, they found tabloids bearing the headline "cry rape"
featuring Alan’s pictures of Sami. A permanent rift was created that
day between Sami and Carrie when Sami screamed at Carrie that she blamed her
for making her look like a liar to the whole town. Sami was still upset at her seventeenth
birthday party and only attended at all because Austin asked her to. Seeing
Austin’s effect on Sami, Carrie asked him to continue to compliment her
and she decided that to punish Carrie for the Alan fiasco, she would have
Austin for her own. She told Jamie of her plan and received a necklace from
Marlena to complete the day. The next Salem party after Sami’s
birthday was a Halloween party, which Sami attended as a nun. Lucas attended
as well and spent his time switching cards so that Bo would be unable to tell
Gina/Hope from Billie. Alan lured Sami away from the party; because he was
masked she believed he was Austin. He tried to attack her, and the real
Austin saved her. Alan again denied that he touched Sami. Realizing that Austin would always protect
her, Sami began to make up stories about being followed to distract Austin
from Carrie. One day she called him to the Pub and then threw away the notes
he left Carrie and unplugged the phone so he could not call her; they had a
cozy evening together. However, Sami decided that she needed help
to break up Austin and Carrie. She found Lucas and told him that if they
worked together, the results would benefit them both, thus setting the staged
for years of shared adventures. Sami’s hatred for Carrie increased
when Alan’s lawyer tricked Carrie on the witness stand at the rape
trial. The taped confession was thrown out as evidence and a mistrial was
declared. Alan gloated to Sami, Carrie, Jamie, and Austin. Carrie apologized
to Sami and said that she took the blame; Sami responded that she hated
Carrie and then slapped her sister. Lucas took in the scene and decided that
Carrie would be much better off with him and told Sami that he would help her
with her plans. Jamie also helped Sami with her plan
unknowingly by calling Austin when Sami again claimed she was being followed. 1995: Runaway Austin and Carrie’s romantic New
Year was ruined when Austin went to make sure Sami was safe. Carrie noticed
that Sami always yelled for help when she and Austin were planning a special
evening and confronted Jamie. Jamie said that Alan was outside the Pub as
they spoke, and if Sami was not lying she was imagining things. Carrie told
Austin of her suspicions and Austin did not agree with her, so the next time
Sami called, Carrie did not give the message to Austin. When Lucas called
them later that evening about Countess Wilhelmina, Austin complained that
they were always being interrupted. Carrie smugly remarked that that was why
she hadn’t told him about Sami’s earlier call. A furious Austin
ran to the docks with Carrie in tow. On the docks, Alan was indeed stalking
Sami. He pulled a gun on her, but she lunged for it. He taunted that she did
not have the nerve to shoot him, but it turned out that she did. The bullet
castrated Alan as Carrie, Austin, Lucas, and the police arrived. Sami
admitted to shooting Alan in self-defense, and at the hospital Mike Horton
informed the interested parties that Alan would live but would never rape anyone
again. Austin took Sami home and Carrie felt both guilty and jealous. At the
hospital, Lucas stayed with Alan who vowed revenge on Sami and Carrie;
because of them he would never make love to another woman. Alan later told
Carrie what he knew of Sami’s schemes; Carrie slapped Sami and a
disgusted Austin took Sami’s side. Sami gleefully recounted this story
to Jamie and Lucas, who told her to quit while she was ahead and to stop
hurting Carrie, who loved her and whom she loved, too. Sami would not listen,
and soon decided to seduce Austin by wearing sexy lingerie. She succeeded
only in making Austin uncomfortable. Carrie briefly put aside her anger with
Sami to tell her that her mother was possessed by the devil. Sami felt that
her mother was faking her illness but went to visit her hoping to score
points with Austin. The devil laughed and called Sami a hypocrite. Lucas went to his "friend"
Alan’s apartment with a healthy supply of alcohol and a drunken Alan
announced that he had indeed raped Sami. Lucas recorded the confession and
headed to the Cheatin’ Heart to mope about losing Carrie. Sami was also
at the Cheatin’ Heart after being told by Austin that he loved Carrie
and wanted Sami only for a friend. Men who had read Sami’s tabloid
article began to torment and hit on her. Lucas rescued Sami and took her to
Titan, where he played the tape. Sami gave Lucas a thank-you kiss and the two
ended up making love as Lucas assured her that eh cared about her and wanted
to be with her. She was not damaged goods. Austin, who had been looking for
Carrie, saw them and since Sami was wearing Carrie’s shirt he believed
that Carrie was making love to Lucas. He and Carrie had just finished another
fight about Sami and Austin became convinced that this break up was
permanent. Lucas attempted to tell Austin with whom he had had sex but then
discovered that he just wasn’t that nice a person and kept his mouth
shut. He tried again at a dinner party later, but Sami was also at the dinner
party and reminded him that she was not yet eighteen and therefore he had
committed statutory rape. Not that Sami was blackmailing Lucas, but she would
press charges if he told Austin that he had made love to her. Several days later, Sami stole drugs from
the hospital while Lucas was meeting his new younger half-brother Philip, the
son of Kate and Victor. Sami then went to Austin’s apartment
to talk to him about getting back together with Carrie. She promised to help
him as she had before, and when he wasn’t looking she dropped the pills
into his drink. She led Austin into the bedroom and he made love to her
thinking she was Carrie. The next morning Austin was horrified to find Sami
in his bed and told her that he would not continue the affair. She still
believed that he loved her, and when she visited Marlena later that day the
devil told Sami to go after Austin. Taking the devil’s advice to heart,
Sami waited for Austin naked in his bed. Austin told her to get dressed
because there would never be anything between them, so she left town, as
usual telling only Jamie. Austin and Carrie took off to find Sami
while Jamie and Lucas waited in Salem. Lucas was at first disgusted when
Jamie told him that Sami had run away because the search was allowing Carrie
and Austin to bond, but Jamie’s worry eventually became contagious.
Jamie admitted that Sami had been through a lot but said that that was no
excuse for her behavior. Especially towards Carrie, added Lucas. And you,
said an adoring Jamie. Jamie and Lucas figured out that Sami had used to drugs
to get Austin into bed and Lucas thought that because of that Austin would
tell Carrie everything that Sami had done, and Lucas would also be
implicated. Jamie assured him that Austin promised not to tell what he knew,
and Lucas admitted that despite the crazy things she had done he was
genuinely worried about Sami and wanted her to come back. Jamie believed that
Sami wanted to get lost and stay lost if she could not have Austin.
Lucas’ life became more complicated when his mother’s plane
crashed into the ocean and she was presumed dead. Kate had written Lucas a
letter explaining Vivian’s role in her "death" but Vivian
found the letter and burned it before Lucas could read it. Jamie offered what
comfort she could, but Lucas refused to accept that his mother was gone and
Victor was forced to just give his stepson time to deal with the tragedy.
Vivian worried that Billie was on to her tricks, so Vivian manipulated Lucas
into throwing a tantrum about Billie planning the memorial service. Lucas
screamed at Billie to get her hands off his mother’s things. Carrie and Austin tracked Sami to Los
Angeles, where she was calling herself "Gene," but she had already
left for Seattle when they heard about Kate’s death and went back home.
Carrie agreed to marry Austin but comforted Lucas over Kate’s death.
Lucas bounced back from his grief enough to brag to Jamie that he and Carrie
would go on a tour of the world. Jamie told him that he would never break up
Austin and Carrie, and when Carrie heard Lucas describing the great cities of
the world she announced her engagement to Austin. She also insisted that
Austin use Lucas as his best man and declared her hope that Sami would return
in time to be maid of honor. Vivian told Lucas that Billie had a hand
in Kate’s death because she was desperate to get Countess Wilhelmina
back, so when Billie attempted to comfort the still-distraught Lucas he
pushed her away. He also called both Austin and Billie gold-diggers when
Kate’s will was read and split Kate’s fortune equally between the
four children; a year before, it would have been Lucas’ alone. Vivian
sympathized with Lucas and promised to get Carrie for him if he helped her
get Kate’s old job. He agreed and faked making peace with his older
siblings, hugging Billie and thanking her for helping while apologizing for
his earlier behavior and swearing to set a good example of sibling
relationships for Philip, as Kate had wanted. He also threw Carrie and
Austin’s engagement party. Everyone but Austin bought his act. As
Carrie and Austin grew closer, Lucas demanded that Vivian break them up
within two days or lose his support. Months passed without anyone seeing Sami.
(Not sure what Alison Sweeny was doing but she obviously had time off.) Then
some girls in a slum in Seattle began to discuss that weird girl who was so
angry but who could wrap a man around her little finger. Sami, who had been
carefully avoiding investigators and the "missing" posters of her
that had been plastered all over the West Coast by Carrie, Austin, and John,
finally decided to return to Salem. She called Jamie but hung up before Jamie
could tell her that Carrie and Austin would soon be married. A trucker drove
Sami home, and Jamie was finally able to tell Sami about Austin and Carrie.
Sami returned to Seattle and told her new friend Ashley that Stefano DiMera
had sent a certain set of goblets to her parents just before their marriage
fell apart. She bought an identical set of goblets, much to the annoyance of
Ashley who had wanted the money to be used for more practical purposes, and
sent them to Austin and Carrie. When the couple toasted, Carrie, as planned,
took it as a bad omen. Back in Salem, Lucas watched Carrie get
fitted for her wedding dress and demanded that Vivian fix his problem. Vivian
told him that she was too busy running Titan, so he went to tell Victor what
he knew about Vivian’s role in Kate’s demise. Vivian stopped him
just in time and hired a private investigator to find Sami. Ashley loyally
lied to the investigator that "a lot of girls come through here"
and she had no recollection of Sami. Sami herself realized she was being
followed and the detective was unable to grab her, although he did report to
Vivian and Lucas that Sami was alive and well in Seattle. This was not good
enough for Lucas, but Vivian informed him that she was going to put Carrie
and Austin on the cover of Bella so "a certain runaway in Seattle"
would see it and know that she was running out of time if she wanted to take
Austin from her sister. Vivian also sent extra copies of Bella to Seattle.
Vivian’s ploy worked like a charm, and Sami stole a car to get back to
Salem as quickly as possible. However, Sami seldom gets into a car that she
doesn’t crash, and this was no exception. Sami was taken to a hospital where she
would not give her name; nonetheless, Vivian’s detective found her and
called Lucas with an update. Lucas gloated to Jamie that there would be no
wedding. Carrie watched from afar and later commiserated with Jamie, whom she
knew wanted Lucas for herself. Meanwhile, Lucas demanded that Vivian fly to
Seattle herself and bring Sami back. However, Mr. Panetta, the owner of the
car Sami stole, wanted to press charges and Sami was to go to jail as soon as
she was released from the hospital. She and Ashley planned an escape, but
Sami was given a tranquilizer and could not stay awake to complete the plan.
Sami was also informed that she was pregnant. She was still unconscious when
Vivian and Ivan arrived. A lawyer Vivian quickly hired coached Sami to play
innocent and apologetic, but Mr. Panetta and the police did not believe her. In Salem, Marlena died from a
devil-related illness and Lucas gloated when Carrie postponed her wedding. He
also threatened Vivian with dire consequences if she did not bring Sami home. On one of many escape attempts, Sami was
caught by the policeman guarding her door, and it was decided that she must
be well enough to go to jail. Vivian, who had been looking for a way to
blackmail Mr. Panetta into dropping charges, finally had Ivan pose as
Sami’s mother and ask for mercy. Mr. Panetta agreed to drop the
charges, but Sami had already been booked, and the police station was full of
"missing" posters that explained exactly who this "juvenile
delinquent" was. Vivian called Lucas with an update, and a furious Lucas
told her that he was flying to Seattle himself and if Sami was not out of
jail, Victor would know all. Desperate, Vivian paid Sami’s bail and
checked her into a luxury hotel. She then gave Sami money for a makeover and
got Sami’s ankle tag removed so she could leave Seattle. Sami wondered
why Vivian was helping her but accepted the help anyway, promising in return
not to tell anyone that Vivian had been her savior. Sami said good-bye to
Ashley at a dinner arranged by Vivian so Sami could not pull any more tricks
before her flight left the next morning. Vivian also fielded phone calls from
a nervous Lucas, who was suffering through Austin’s bachelor party.
Sami snuck away from Vivian and Ashley and changed her flight reservations so
she could leave that night. Sami arrived in Salem but did not tell
Lucas, Vivian, or anyone but (you guessed it) Jamie that she was home. She
made Jamie promise to stay quiet and snuck into Carrie’s room, where
she considered attacking the wedding dress with scissors but then decided she
had a better idea. Lucas continued to tell Vivian that if Sami did not stop
the wedding, Victor would be hearing some interesting information from his
favorite stepson. The wedding began without Sami. Then
Mickey Horton spotted her and stopped the wedding so Marlena, who had
returned to life when John battled the devil one last time, and Carrie could
hug their daughter/sister. Carrie pulled Sami into the dressing room and made
her impromptu maid of honor. Sami was nervous when Carrie acted thrilled to
see her but disgusted when she learned that Carrie was marrying Austin
knowing he had slept with someone else and that she didn’t know or care
who. Carrie made it to the altar, and then Sami fainted, to the surprise of
everyone but Jamie, who knew her friend was faking. Sami regained
consciousness and spoke about how worried she was about her baby-- she was
five months pregnant. She had just found out and wanted the comfort of her
mother and sister-- how was she supposed to know that it was Carrie’s
wedding day? Carrie and Marlena believed her and did some quick math and
realized that the father was from Salem. They promised to make him take
responsibility and Sami tearfully told Carrie that she had never wanted to
tell her, but the father was Austin. Outside, Vivian figured out Sami’s
plan and told a delighted Lucas. Then Carrie stormed out of the bridal room
and up the aisle to slap Austin and call off the wedding. Lucas yelled at
Jamie for knowing what Sami was up to and not telling him, and Sami assured
Jamie that soon she and Austin would live happily ever after. For his part,
Austin apologized and denied everything, so Sami faked cramps to get Austin
to the hospital with her. Lucas smoothly picked up his side of the plan by
telling Carrie that Austin shouldn’t have led on the just-raped Sami
when he knew she had had a crush on him for years. Carrie allowed a secretly
gloating Lucas to comfort her. They then went to Austin’s apartment to
move her things, and he told her she should move into the Kiriakis Mansion
where she would almost never see Austin. Meanwhile, Sami and Austin looked at
a sonogram of their baby and he promised to help her. She was disappointed
that he did not marry her on the spot. The next day, Sami and Lucas spent some
quality time together and Lucas asked Sami if she was sure the baby was
Austin’s. Yes, I’m sure, said Sami, although she had done no
tests to prove it. Lucas did not force the issue and the two went to watch as
Carrie returned Austin’s ring. Lucas then took Carrie out to lunch
while Sami dealt with her grandmother’s suspicions that she had indeed
known that the day of her return was Carrie’s wedding day. Austin
continued to assure Sami that he would take care of her but would only and
always love Carrie, who attempted to have a romantic dinner with Lucas that
was interrupted by Victor’s declaration that Kate wanted Carrie with
Austin. Carrie told Victor that she was through with Austin but then told
Lucas that she was jealous of Sami as she had wanted to have Austin’s
children. The next day, Sami and Lucas met to
compare notes and Sami shared her concerns that Nurse Lynn Burke remembered
telling Sami about the drugs she used on Austin. Lucas told Sami that if she
kept Austin from Lynn, he could keep Carrie from Lynn. While keeping Austin
from Lynn, Sami subjected herself to a line of questions about the night she
and Austin made love. She changed her story enough that even Austin suspected
she was lying and she was forced to start crying to distract him. She then
vowed to make up a story and stick to it. Lucas told Austin to go away and
stop upsetting Carrie while returning the wedding rings to him and managed to
overhear Lynn discussing how hanging was too good for the slut that seduced
Austin. Lynn was trying to get close to Carrie to score points with
Carrie’s pal Jonah, who only had eyes for Wendy Reardon. Lucas arranged
for Lynn to get a job in another city while Sami dodged questions from her
sister, mother, and grandmother by reminding them all that a possessed Marlena
TOLD her to go after Austin, and besides, both Marlena and Caroline cheated
on their husbands and bore illegitimate children. Sami played the victim,
reciting her reasons for having trouble trusting men, and ending with
"and that’s how I ended up alone and pregnant on the streets of
Seattle." Sami also went shopping for maternity clothes with Jamie and
made a point of drinking milk "nothing but healthy foods for me and
Baby." That night, Sami and Lucas met at the
Cheatin’ Heart to discuss Lynn. Lucas offered Lynn a job at Titan that
would transfer her to Chicago, and after hitting on an unresponsive Jonah,
Lynn accepted. Sami then saw Austin and cried on his shoulder about how she
had ruined her life and everyone blamed her for ruining Carrie’s. She
grew more upset when Jamie told her that Austin had been asking around,
trying to find out what had happened the night he slept with Sami. Jamie
warned Sami that she could not keep her secret forever, and Sami ran to a pay
phone to make an appointment at an abortion clinic. Jamie overheard the call,
and Sami told Jamie that it was just a scheme but she would go through with
it if Jamie did not call Austin and tell him what she was planning. Jamie
reluctantly called Austin, whose car broke down before he was able to make it
to the clinic. Sami reacted strongly to a mild sedative and was unable to
stop the abortion herself. Carrie snooped through Sami’s things and
realized she was at a family planning clinic, and got Lucas to take her to
Sami. Austin arrived as well, and when Sami woke up, crying "My baby? Is
my baby okay?" all were relieved to hear that Sami was anemic and the
operation had not been performed. Austin told Sami he would do everything in
his power to support and protect her, and then drove her home as a
heartbroken Carrie watched. Marlena kept telling Sami to let Austin be
with the woman he really loved and Sami kept blowing her mother off. Sami continued to pull Austin closer to
her by asking him to take her shopping for more maternity clothes, letting
him feel the baby in case it kicked, and attempting to get him to take her to
a magic show. Austin and Carrie were handcuffed together at the show while
Sami and Lucas watched. Sami was frantic, Lucas amused and calming Sami down.
Sami decided that there were too many close calls with Austin and Carrie
wanting to get back together and told Vivian that if she did not give her a
job at Titan she would tell everyone what she did to get Sami out of Seattle.
Vivian acquiesced (after Sami listed her contacts-- Caroline, Abe, Billie,
John) and gushed to Ivan "Sami is ever so much more advanced than I was
at that age." Sami went to the gym where Austin was with
Carrie and faked stomach pains so Austin would help her exercise. But Carrie
and Austin found more alone time at Titan the next day, so Lucas pretended to
give Sami a tour of the building and then took test shots of Sami because
pregnant women should feel as beautiful as models. Lucas even put Austin the
pictures, and when Austin felt the baby kick Carrie was crushed at his joy.
Then Lucas convinced Austin to take Sami home. Sami and Lucas continued to work on their
own siblings as well. Sami told Carrie that she worried that Austin would not
support her if he thought he had a chance with her sister and Lucas told
Austin that he had to set Carrie free. Austin asked Lucas to make sure that
Carrie did not get involved with the wrong kind of man, and when Austin
thought Lucas was talking about this to Carrie, Lucas actually said that
Carrie should date someone else to make Austin focus on Sami. He eventually
suggested that if Carrie didn’t want a new man in her life, he should
pretend to be that man. Austin, though, wanted to take Carrie to the
Penthouse Grill and was silly enough to tell Lucas of his plans. Lucas
naturally told Sami, who told Carrie that she wanted to cook dinner for
Austin to thank him for taking care of her. When Carrie told Sami where
Austin would be that night, Sami moaned that she would never do something so
romantic since she’d gotten pregnant at seventeen. Carrie responded by
telling Austin to take Sami, not her, and by asking Lucas to take her to
dinner to convince Austin that she was over him. Sami thanked Austin
profusely, comparing herself to Cinderella, as Lucas walked in. Austin was
upset, but Carrie told him she had moved on. Austin’s life spiraled further out
of control when his main support, his sister Billie, left Salem to allow her
fiancŽ Bo to go back to his resurrected wife Hope. Sami comforted Austin
and talked about how she missed her father. Austin was frustrated, though,
and went hunting for Lucas, telling his brother that he was supposed to keep
an eye on Carrie, not date her. Austin and Carrie nearly reunited when they
read good-bye notes from Billie telling them they were destined to be
together, but as always Sami and Lucas were spying at the opportune moment
and Lucas told Carrie not to answer. Remembering her reasons for pretending
to date Lucas, Carrie replied that she no longer wanted Austin. The strain took a toll on Carrie, and when
Lucas took her to the hospital for a checkup, they ran into Austin and Sami,
there for an ultrasound. Austin did not want to know the sex of the baby, so
Sami agreed to be surprised, although she did say that if it was a boy she
wanted to call it Austin Junior. Austin felt the baby move inside Sami and
talked about Lamaze classes with her. At Titan, Vivian wanted Lucas to help her
win Victor and he said no, so in retaliation Vivian sent both Carrie and
Austin to the Green Mountain Lodge on business. Lucas believed Carrie was
going to Miami and he planned to follow her. Sami began to get stomach
cramps, so Lucas cancelled his reservations, but Sami told Lucas she would
feel better only if she knew he was with Carrie. Lucas reluctantly left Sami
alone with her doctor and Vivian, who, angered that Sami would not get Lucas
to help her, swore to get even with the two. Sami soon learned that Austin and Carrie
were alone together at the Lodge. She decided to follow them, but Jamie
threatened to tell Marlena. Sami agreed not to go to appease Jamie, but as
soon as Jamie left to do homework, Sami went to Lucas’ office to steal
his car keys. When Lucas returned from a Carrie-less Miami, he and Jamie
realized that Sami had taken his precious BMW and probably headed for the
Lodge. A concerned Lucas knew about the bad weather that was heading for the
mountains and called Sami on his car phone to warn her. She lost control of
the car as they spoke, and Lucas called Austin and Carrie at the Lodge just
before they fell into bed. All three later found Lucas’ totaled car,
with an unconscious Sami still inside. An ambulance was called for Sami, and
Austin and Lucas fought on the way to the hospital because Lucas lamented the
state of his car. He later said that he was only upset because Sami’s
injuries might be as grave as those suffered by the car. At the hospital, the
baby’s heartbeat slowed and a guilt-wracked Carrie dumped Austin as
Lucas gloated. The baby then recovered. Vivian came to the hospital and forged a
you-shut-up-and-so-will-I deal with Sami and Lucas. When Sami was ready to
leave the hospital, Austin took her home to stay with him. Austin quickly ran
over to visit Carrie, and Sami interrupted them before anything could happen,
as always. Austin asked Sami to help him get Carrie back, and because Lucas
had told Sami of Carrie’s vow never to take Austin back, Sami agreed.
But when Austin went out to dinner, Sami loosened Carrie’s light bulbs
so she would use candles and put Carrie and Austin’s romantic CD in the
player. She then called Lucas and told him to come romance Carrie, but to
leave the door open so Austin would see. When Austin did see, Sami explained
that her grandfather had the chicken pox and since the rest of her family was
in Aremid, she wanted to stay with Austin until the baby came. Austin said
again that he would never have a relationship with Sami, so she said she
would go to another friend. As usual, she lied, and she really went to
the house that had stood empty since Roman and Marlena’s divorce. She
cried about the state of her life and then felt a stomach pain. She was
frightened when her water broke, especially since the house had no
electricity and no working phone line, but she assured herself that first
babies take a long time to be born. Wrong. She went to her old bedroom and
fell unconscious. Luckily, Carrie and Austin had been alerted that Sami was
nowhere to be found and Carrie had thought to check her old house. Candles
were burning in the windows, so they went inside and took Sami to the
hospital. Sami apologized to Austin through the pain, and hoped that God
would not punish her baby for her sins. The baby’s heart rate dropped at the
hospital, so Sami underwent a C-section as Austin stayed by her side. Sami
decides to name the baby boy William, in honor of Austin’s sister
Billie. Outside, Lucas eavesdropped and collected information, and cringed
when Marlena told Carrie that she should go back to Austin. Austin and Carrie
were again separated when the doctors told him that Will was ill with a
bacterial infection caused by the delay in getting Sami to the hospital.
Lucas reiterated to Austin that Sami needed him, and snuck into to visit Sami
and tell her about what Marlena and Carrie were saying about Austin. Austin spent Sami’s first night in
the hospital with her, but Carrie and Austin spent the end of Sami’s
hospital stay at Titan while Lucas and Sami plotted. Lucas insisted that Sami
breast-feed her son, although she did not want to because she was in enough
pain as it was. "Sami, I know my brother. He’s a sentimental guy .
. ." and sure enough, Austin was touched when he saw Sami breast-feeding
his son. Lucas also told Sami of Austin’s guilt over not letting her stay
with him earlier, and when Carrie came to visit Austin that night, she was
greeted by Sami, who stated "Will and I are living here now."
Carrie and Austin still saw each other at work, and when Sami called Austin
home on his first day back, Carrie and Lucas came along. Lucas pulled Sami
aside and told her that she was not trying hard enough. Sami soon convinced Austin to work from
home, but Carrie worked from home as well. Sami called Lucas and told him
that it was his job to get Carrie back to Titan. Lucas called Carrie, and she
and Austin ended up nearly kissing as she came out of her shower. Only
Will’s crying stopped the kiss. Lucas continued to work on Carrie and
got her to the Titan Christmas Party while Sami and Austin were at the Pub
party. However, Carrie dragged Lucas to the Pub and kissed Austin under the
mistletoe, to the delight of everyone but the fuming Sami and Lucas. Sami
then attempted to have a private Christmas morning with Austin and Will, but
Carrie and Lucas came by, and after Sami kicked them out she sent Austin and
Will for a walk so she could brag to Jamie about how her cooking would make
Austin forget about Carrie. In the park, Austin and Will met Carrie, and
Austin sketched Carrie while she held her nephew. Sami was pleased to see the
sketches until she realized that they were not of her but of Carrie. Jamie
told Sami and Lucas that this was only further proof that Austin and Carrie
were meant to be together, but Sami ignored her and snidely told Lucas
"he drew her like some kind of Madonna . . . we have to keep them
apart." Austin and Carrie decided that if they
could not have Christmas together, they would have New Year’s, and they
planned a building-wide party. A frantic Sami called Lucas, but he had an
attack of decency and told her that he wanted Carrie to be happy and she was
happy with Austin. Sami then fainted, and Austin canceled the party to stay
with her. Lucas also expressed concern for Sami when he realized that for
once she wasn’t faking. Sami admitted to Lucas that she was in real
pain a lot of the time from the C-section. Despite the cancelled party,
Carrie and Austin planned to meet on the roof at midnight. If one of them did
not show up, that meant the relationship was over. Sami overheard the plans
and called Lucas, who insisted that he didn’t care, but Sami told him
Carrie would be alone for New Year’s if he didn’t come over. She
then set the clocks in Austin’s apartment back fifteen minutes and took
her time ironing Austin’s clothes so Austin and Carrie missed each
other on the roof. Lucas wisely listened to Sami and Sami grinned as she
watched Austin overhear Carrie tell Lucas that she was through with her
ex-fiance. Lucas went back into scheming mode and rubbed Austin’s face
in the fact that Carrie would spend the new year with him. I would like to personally think Medea for
allowing me to use the final product of all of her hard work compiling Sami's
history. Isn't she wonderful? |
